Old McDonald....

And last, but not least, we capped off our fun filled week in Wyoming (or maybe I should also add S.D. in there) by going to Old McDonald's Farm. Kailer wasn't too sure what he thought of the animals."Hey, don't get me too close!"

I think Kailer might have been upset that this cute little goat was eating his Cheerios! :)

Much better from the other side of the fence.

Elephant Art

This morning, after being gone for nearly two weeks, I came to work to find a painting in our waiting area. This particular piece of art had been painted by an elephant in Thailand, using his trunk to hold the brush, on paper that is made out of elephant dung!! (Eew, I know!) So as I was looking at it, I made the comment, "Kailer made something very similar to that last week!" ... and I wasn't kidding. Last week on Tuesday, for the first time Kailer got the opportunity to do some finger painting. We did it in the garage, with butcher paper taped to the floor (Sorry, we were fresh out of dung paper .. ha!) and Kailer created his very first masterpiece that was definitely worthy of being hung on the fridge. By the end of his art session, he was having more fun throwing the 10 bottles of paints across the garage and playing in the bucket of water I had brought out to clean him up!

A little paint on the belly for an extra added touch of fun!

Beautiful!

Playing with the string-line in the garage!

Happy 4th of July!

Wow, what a gorgeous day to be spent outside celebrating the freedom that comes along with living in the United States. I think, unfortunately, it's easy for us (Americans) to get caught up in the mumble-jumble of things that aren't really important and we forget about how lucky we are to be citizens of the United States of America. We have so many rights and freedom that people in other countries are literally dying for each day. Freedom is not free and I am so thankful for those citizens who serve to protect our country.
Our day was quiet, as Dan was sleeping, but Kailer and I spent the majority of it outside. This evening I was hoping that I could take Kailer out on the porch to watch fireworks, but he fell asleep about 10 minutes too early. He did get to see some last night that had him in awe.

Sporting his size 12 month 4th of July outfit. (The shirt is too big and the shorts are rolled at the waste to keep them up - skinny kid!)

A (terrible) attempt at a "self-portrait" of the two of us.
After Dan got up we were cleaning his truck in the driveway, so I found a good place to "store" Kailer so he wouldn't get into mischief! :)

The next "step" ... or ... "climb"

So I read not to long ago, somewhere, a quote that fits children (most specifically toddlers) perfectly,"The quickest way for a parent to get a child's attention is to sit down and look comfortable." [Unknown] And boy aren't those words spoken like a true parent. It's amazing how much mischief little people can get into and in a short amount of time.
Last Sunday our neighbors, who have 5 kids, invited us over to play in their ginormous inflatable slide/pool/water cannon shooter. Kailer and I headed over in the afternoon heat to play with the kids and enjoy an Otter Pop. Kailer had fun in the water for a bit and then he retreated to the patio where he enjoyed playing with the toys. I was chatting away when Heather, our neighbor, says "Oh is he good with climbing?" My initial thought is 'who'? Then it dawns on me that she's talking about Kailer and behind me he's crawling up on the kid-sized picnic table...which was the first time he'd successfully made it on top of something while climbing. Since then he's been on top of a lot of other items. I'm afraid it wont be long before we'll have to lower the crib to the lowest position or we may have a loose monkey running around!

Just a beautiful Columbine in our flower bed - every year when I see these bloom I say a little "in memory of" prayer for the kids at the Columbine shooting.
