"My Dr. Todd"

On Thursday, June 16, I took Kailer to see Dr. Todd for his first dental appointment.  I know, I know, "Why do you take a 2-year old to the dentist?"  1) Because have known Dr. Todd for several years (his office is the meeting site for our annual Cleft Palate Clinic, for which I am a provider) and 2) I have a strong believe that it's always good to allow children the opportunity to be acquainted and comfortable with new experiences.  I didn't suspect that Kailer had any cavities or dental problems, but I wanted to introduce the dentist to him so that when it comes time for bi-annual cleanings and the such he will be adjusted.
Dr. Todd has the coolest pediatric office, EVER!  Every room is painted with a different theme/country.  The hygienist was AWESOME and Dr. Todd is a very cool guy that loves children.  So our first visit took us to this fish room, where the walls were painted like the ocean and there was an aquarium.  There was no "typical" dental chair, there was a couch, recliner, some toys and a pint-sized recliner.
As for the exam, all that it involved was Kailer sitting on my life, facing me and then we laid his head back on Dr. Todd's lap while he "counted" his teeth. Very painless and in the end Kailer ended up with 3 stickers, a stuffed turtle, a new blue toothbrush (which, of course, he picked out!) and some floss.   It was a good visit and we'll go back in 6-months!  If you want to check out more of the office, go to http://www.mydrtodd.com/.

Kailer's motorcycle bike also made its first trip to the dentist! :)

Camping!?

One of my friends got Kailer a very cute teddy bear camping chair and a sleeping bag for his birthday.  So, I figured, 'why not,' try to see if he'll sleep in the sleeping bag, because in about a week he's going to be going to a new daycare where they lie them on the floor for nap time. So I'm thinking to myself, "lets just try to transition him into this for nap time now." (As opposed to his crib).  Well, my effort worked okay, for about an hour (I've tried this two times now) and then he wakes up crying and obviously not fully rested!  Just goes to show how much he loves HIS bed.  I just pray that when he sees the other children sleeping on the floor, he'll be okay - and maybe he will be simply because his bed wont be in sight.  On the flip side, he loves the sleeping bag, and the idea of it.

At Long Last....

In a toddler world, waiting more than 30 seconds for a much anticipated event is pure torture - and as I discovered for both Mom and child!  For the past two weeks, I've heard the words "My birthday party..." come out of Kailer's mouth more times than I can even tell you.  He has been SO excited for his birthday party with his friends and finally this Saturday it happened for him!  We were blessed (very, very last minute .... it was a downpour literally 15 minutes before 'go' time) with nice weather, great friends and their wonderful children.  Everyone had a nice time and I do believe that Kailer's first friend birthday party was a success!!  Now, to just figure out a way to make him understand that his birthday is almost a year away now! :)
Part of the party crew .... and (little guy red shirt in his Daddy's arms) the first "owie" of the night.
"Yes" there was more than one.

Kailer lovin' his new bubble blowing lawn mower!

Happy Birthday little man!  Your mommy and daddy love you more than you'll ever know.  We wish you a fabulous year... XO

OCD?

Kailer might be a 'wee-bit' OCD.  The other day while riding his bikes outside, I told him to park them so we could go inside.  This is how I found them; all neatly parked in a diagonal.  We've also made note that when playing he is very specific about where things go and does NOT  like it when you move them. It's kind of comical, really, to watch/listen to him when he realizes we've moved something. Don't touch his toys!!  Poor kid, though, it was bound to happen - with as OCD as Dan is with his bike/bows/hunting and I am with the cleanliness of my house .... well, he was doomed! :)
